What is Santa Ana Institute of Sound? A word from Victor Vazquez, program director.

Hi Everyone,

First off, thank you for visiting our page! Second of all, I bet you’re probably wondering: What exactly is SAIS?

To answer this, I’d have to  start off with a feeling: Excitement; and perhaps I’ll  follow that with a formula: 11 teenagers+iPads/traditional instruments+4 months+Santa Ana+ live music+ video screens+ a story of a boy who can’t get music out of his head= LISTEN!

A year and a half ago I had a wild dream of mixing an electronic Dj with an orchestra, and I knew it had to do something with the community of Santa Ana. So I started the journey, received a wonderful grant from the Hispanic Scholarship Fund/McNamara Family Creative Arts Grant and followed through with my hunch. 11 teenagers were recruited from Santa Ana schools, we meet every Saturday to play improv games, jam out, share stories, write, listen to music and above all- we create! So far, we’ve compiled a list of songs to orchestrate an original narrative play that takes place in Santa Ana. Mixing video and live orchestration with live acting we take you on the journey of a young boy who is convinced he has an orchestra inside his head.

Come out and support our ventures as we too have extensively researched and are inspired by the current and, I must say, immense budget cuts that are affecting our public school arts programming in California and abroad. Together, our mission is to both inspire and teach our youth that the music and art inside our bodies and minds require creative outlets- and that our future can only be resolved if we look to find creative and innovative solutions to our economical and educational problems.
